    George Mervin Franks Sr. of Collier, Pa., passed away on Friday, January 10, 2003 in the
Uniontown Hospital. He was born July 27, 1921 in Messmore, Fayette County, Pa., son of Grover
Cleveland Franks and Emma Florence King Franks.

    Mr. Franks was a retired Millwright from United States Steel's National Tube in McKeesport, Pa.,
and United States Army Veteran of World War II who served in the European Theatre where he attained
the rank of Sergeant. He had been actively involved in the Boy Scouts of America, Fairchance Troop,
being appointed Scoutmaster in 1962. He was a member of Junior Masons Bunker Hill Lodge No. 53, V. F.
W. Post 47 in Uniontown, and General George C. Marshall AMVETS Post 103, Hopwood, Pa.

    A son, George Mervin Franks Jr., a granddaughter, Natascha Lynn Franks, three brothers, Price
Franks, Robert Franks, Orville Franks, and his parents preceded him in death.

    Mr. Franks is survived by his wife, Thelma L. (Moats) Franks; these children: Deloris Balsinger
of Smock, Pa., Charlotte Sutton of Fairchance, Pa., Virginia Welch and her husband, Robert, of York
Run, Pa., Douglas D. Franks and his wife, Marianne, of Ludowici, Georgia, Helen Tressler and her
husband, Thomas, of Jacksonville, Florida, Mervin T. Franks and his wife, Maxine of Smithton, Pa.,
and T. Elaine Messenger and her husband, Jeffrey, of Collier, Pa.; 24 grandchildren; several great
grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; sisters and brothers: Caroline Spruill of Uniontown,
Pa., Thomas Franks of Kerns, Utah, Beatrice Gorsuch of Brooklyn, Ohio, and Charles Ray Franks of
Leckrone, Pa.

    Friends will be received in the H. DAVID McELROY FUNERAL HOME, 803 Main Street, McClellandtown,
Pa., this evening, January 12, from 7 to 9 p.m., Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday,
January 14, until 1 p.m., the hour of Service. The Rev. Mark Lawson will officiate.

    Interment will follow in Jacobs Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery where AMVETS General George C.
Marshall Post 103 will accord Military Honors.

    Thelma L. (Moats) Franks, 89, of Collier, Pa., passed away on Monday, April 3, 2006, in Ruby
Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, West Virginia. She was born April 8, 1916, in Haydentown, Pa.,
daughter of Thomas Jefferson Moats and Rosetta May Sprouwl Moats.

    Her parents, her husband, George Mervin Franks Sr., two sons, Steven and George M. Jr., a
granddaughter, Natascha Franks and a grandson, Jack D. Shaffer Jr, preceded her in death.

    Mrs. Franks was a past member of the VFW Post 47 of Uniontown, Pa. and the General George C.
Marshall AMVETS Post 103, Ladies Auxiliary of Hopwood.

    She is survived by these children: Deloris Balsinger of Smock, Pa., Charlotte Sutton of
Fairchance, Pa., Virginia Welch and husband, Robert of York Run, Pa., Douglas D. Franks and wife,
Marianne of Ludowici, Georgia, Helen Tressler and husband, Thomas of Jacksonville, Florida, Mervin T.
Franks and wife, Maxine of Smithton, Pa. and T. Elaine Messenger and husband, Jeffrey of Collier, Pa.
Also surviving are numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She was
the last surviving member of her immediate family.

    Family and friends will be received in the H. DAVID McELROY FUNERAL HOME, 803 Main Street,
McClellandtown, Pa., tonight from 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday, April 6, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and
Friday, April 7 until 1 p.m., the hour of service.

    Interment will follow in Jacobs Ev. Lutheran Cemetery.
