Grace Irene Whale Meneely forward a letter from the Marine Corps Reserve to Mrs. Eileen F. Davis,
widow of Clarence Davis, dated 17 December 1941:

  TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

  The records of this office show that Clarence Frank Davis, born 11 March 1912 at Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania, enlisted in the Marine Corps on 11 August 1933 at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and was
honorably discharged upon expiration of enlistment on 10 August 1937 at Washington, D.C., a corporal,
with character "Excellent," and was awarded a good conduct medal for excellent service.  Enlisted in
the Marine Corps Reserve on 11 August 1937 at Washington, D.C., transferred to an inactive status the
same date, and was honorably discharged by special order of the Major General Commandant on 27
September 1939 as a sergeant.

  Qualified as a sharpshooter and as an expert rifleman with the service rifle, and as a pistol
sharpshooter.

  Qualified as a shorpshooter and as an expert with the Browning Automatic Rifle, and as an expert
with the Thompson Sub-machine Gun.
